Governance Training

Governance Training 2024/25

The Governance Training & Development Offer for the 2024/25 school year is below. It has been developed further by using the feedback from last year and we are confident that it offers excellent value for money and a comprehensive offer to all schools and academies.

Safeguarding Training

We have not included safeguarding training elsewhere in this offer because we would want all governors and trustees to access their safeguarding training through their local Safeguarding Partnership. This ensures that, in this critical area, there is consistency of message and procedure across the local area.

In Sheffield, the Sheffield Children Safeguarding Partnership Safeguarding Governors Training is required for all Safeguarding Governors and strongly recommended for the Chair of Governors. It is also useful for other members of the Governing Body. Colleagues in Rotherham should contact RoSIS for details of how to access this training appropriately in Rotherham.

**Places are limited to 2 people from any one school over the academic year 2024-25. Additional places booked will be cancelled**

Safeguarding - SCSP

Course Overview

This training is required for the identified trustee or member of a governing body (or equivalent) with responsibility for safeguarding and is also useful for Headteachers. It is not the same as the 'whole-school' Basic Safeguarding Children in Education Training, although Governors are welcome to attend this within their school.

The training incorporates local and national guidance to discuss:

  • Definitions of safeguarding and the safeguarding role of Governing Bodies in education settings
  • Safeguarding policies and procedures in education settings
  • Safer schools, safer recruitment and allegations against staff
  • Requirements for staff safeguarding training
  • Ofsted Inspections (safeguarding focus)
  • The Safeguarding Annual Audit from Headteachers
