South Yorkshire Maths Hub
The South Yorkshire Maths Hub is one of a network of 40 Maths Hubs in England, working together within the Maths Hubs Programme, which began in 2014. Fully funded by the Department for Education (DfE) and coordinated by the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM), they offer over 30 professional development opportunities to individuals, trusts, departments and schools.
Teachers and Trust leaders will work alongside colleagues from other schools/trusts in a small group led by a local experienced teacher with expertise in professional development and the school phase in question. Some projects involve larger groups, coordinated and led regionally or nationally. Meetings are a mix of online and face-to-face. The work takes place over an extended period, across two or three school terms; this allows for experimentation and experience-sharing within the group. Many projects include a parallel objective of embedding improved practice, leading to more secure learning across a trust, department or school.
