Governance Training

Governance Training 2023/24

The Governance Training & Development Offer for the 2023/24 school year is below. It has been developed further by using the feedback from last year and we are confident that it offers excellent value for money and a comprehensive offer to all schools and academies.

Induction Training

The programme of three training sessions is aimed at new governors and offers a broad and comprehensive overview of the skills and knowledge you will need to quickly get to grips with your new role as a school governor.

Please note that governors must commit to attending all three training sessions to make the most of this training.

The programme is relevant for governors from all phases and settings. The programme aims to support new governors to better understand:

  • The types and roles of governance boards.
  • How to be an effective member of a governance board.
  • The key roles and responsibilities of governance boards in contributing to school improvement.
  • The different and complementary roles of the CEO, headteacher/principal and the governance board.
  • Roles of different stakeholders and their relationship with the governing board.

The course will take place over three 2 hour Zoom sessions and is led by Alan Richards. Alan is an experienced former National Leader of Governance and current academy Chair and Trustee, maintained school governor and Management Committee Chair.
