SEND Workforce Development
This webpage now lists the wide range of SEND training available to Sheffield settings from a number of providers. This is part of the Workforce Development area of the whole city SEND and Inclusion Strategy. This new approach is a work in progress and we are hoping to make it easier to locate specific training from a number of providers by listing it all on this webpage.
The training has been separated by the areas of healthy child development and to reflect the broad areas of need by the SEND Code of Practice (Communication and Interaction / Cognition and Learning / Social, Emotional and Mental Health / Sensory and/or Physical), plus one category for systems and processes. Please use the buttons below to navigate to the area of training that you are looking for.
Where no dates or locations are listed on the website, this is because there are multiple dates available and these are listed on the Eventbrite booking page. Costs to settings have been indicated as applicable.
For any queries or feedback about this new approach, please contact enquiries@learnsheffield.co.uk.
Sensory
Deaf/Hearing and Vision Support Service Training |
This session will offer an overview of the implications of vision and hearing needs in pre-school settings.
Multi-Sensory Impairment:
This session will outline the distinct implications of multi-sensory impairment (a diagnosis of both deafness and vision impairment). We will address common challenges for Early Years practitioners, the role of specialist advisory teachers, and approaches to assessment, in-class support, and curriculum planning. The session will involve brief simulation activities as well as group discussion of the themes raised.
Deaf/Hearing Support Service:
Our qualified teachers of the Deaf will discuss the impact of deafness on language development in the early years, different types of deafness, technology, and ways to support children in the setting. We will also cover the role of the Service and the Teacher of the Deaf.
Vision Support Service:
The Vision Support Service will cover what a vision friendly early years setting looks like and talk about the implications of a visual impairment on children’s development. We will also explore useful strategies to support learning activities, with input from our multi-sensory impairment teacher who will discuss the implications on learning and development for Deaf/Blind children.
Audience: All early years practitioners, childminders, managers, teachers, teaching assistants, year 1 teachers and leaders.
