PESSPA Training

The PESSPA (Physical Education, School Sport & Physical Activity) Alliance working in partnership with Learn Sheffield and Mercia TSA submitted a successful bid to DfE (in 2019/20) in relation to a project to improve the quality of PE teaching and leadership.

This partnership will recruit a team of Specialist PESSPA Leaders and Champion Schools to work with identified schools and share good practice across the city. This project has been delayed by COVID but the work will now take place between November 2020 and March 2021.

The sessions outlined below are available for free to all Sheffield schools and academies. You can book onto the sessions using the links provided.

CPD for Teaching PE

Inclusion and SEND PE

Attendees will review their practice and delivery of effective PE provision for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. A range of resources to support teaching and differentiation will be provided as well as a chance to ask for advice around specific scenarios in your school.

Assessment in Physical Education

Attendees will explore methods for assessment as part of Primary Physical Education, what teachers should be looking for across KS1 and KS2 and some top tips for how to effectively assess pupils within your lessons.

School Swimming and Water Safety

In this pre-recorded video, Emma Banks, P.E, Swimming and Outdoor Learning Service Manager joins us to discuss school swimming and water safety in-light of COVID, as part of the Learn Sheffield COVID Recovery Festival.

'You Don't Have To Go Far To Have Fun'.... Simplified Systems for Staying local with Outdoor Learning

With restrictions in place on schools, Outdoor Learning is an amazing way to develop the skills of all pupils, as well as supporting the reintegration for pupils in to school routines. This session support you to think of practical ways that your school can develop Outdoor Learning locally.

Exploring Primary PE

This workshop is designed to support early career primary school teachers to develop their understating of the primary PE curriculum. The workshop will unpick the curriculum and explore what PE could look like in your classroom.

We will explore:

  • the aims of the physical education curriculum across key stage one and two
  • the national curriculum subject content and how this could map across the year for your class
  • discuss effective and inclusive methods for physically educating your class

Does it sometimes feel like there is a disconnect between what you feel you should be teaching in PE and what you know will inspire your children? This workshop will examine the PE curriculum and what meaningful PE could look like in your school.

We will discuss:

  • What is meaningful PE
  • What could meaningful PE look like for your children?
  • How do we create educationally driven PE experiences that motivate and inspire our children?
  • Is it possible to include children in the planning of PE in order to promote engagement and meaning?

Intent, Implementation and Impact of your PESSPA Offer
