Calling all Young People to get creative for Invictus UK Trials Sheffield 2019

In partnership with Learn Sheffield, Never Such Innocence (NSI) is excited to present children and young people an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of Team UK competitors at the Invictus UK Trials whilst giving them the chance to reflect on conflict and what our Armed Forces means to them.

NSI gives young people from across the world the opportunity to process, respond to, and reflect on all forms of conflict and consider the value of commemoration. Throughout May and June we will be running a creative arts competition as part of the Invictus UK Trials, which is delivered by a partnership of Help for Heroes, the Royal British Legion, the Ministry of Defence and Sheffield City Council, scheduled to be held in Sheffield in July 2019.

We are inviting all young people aged 9-18 from across Sheffield together with those attending the Trials to reflect on your family’s / your community’s experience of conflict, currently or throughout history and the sacrifices both the Armed Forces and civilians make at times of war and respond creatively through a poem, a speech, a song, or a piece of art.

We are offering free songwriting and/or poetry workshops for Team UK Friends & Family and all schools and youth groups across Sheffield. Our wonderful practitioners, from veterans to professional singer-songwriters, (including a finalist from The Voice 2019!) will deliver a two-hour masterclass in song-writing or poetry in Sheffield and around the UK. All workshop participants will be invited to the special showcase event below!

The competition deadline is Friday 28th June, entries may be submitted online or by post. Every entrant will receive a very special personalised certificate of commendation and will be automatically entered into our international competition launching this September. We work with 47 countries, territories and dependencies spanning 5 continents.....be part of an international movement!

Winning work will be showcased in Sheffield during the week of the Trials, from 22nd to 26th July, including a special certificate-giving event.
