Sheffield SAFE Taskforce: Annual Report Year 2

The Sheffield SAFE Taskforce: Annual Report Year 2 has now been published. This report provides an overview of the DfE’s SAFE programme in Sheffield. It covers the period from September 2023 to September 2024.
Attendance Report Published

Learn Sheffield have produced a report about what works in relation to attendance. Good Practice in the improvement of pupils’ attendance in Sheffield Settings has been published on the Learn Sheffield Insight Hub. In addition to identifying the features of good practice, the report also includes a list of questions in relation to attendance.
Young Carer Project Update

Learn Sheffield are working with Sheffield Young Carers to improve the identification of young carers and our ability to understand their outcomes. The project team have produced an update to share, which includes some next steps for settings.
Learn Sheffield Board - Director Vacancy

Autumn 2 Leader Briefing

The Autumn 2 Leader Briefing is now available. It includes: • An update from Meredith Dixon Teasdale at SCC, on the work around SEND that is currently taking place. • An input from Zoe Brownlie on the Senior Mental Health Training. • Information on some of Learn Sheffield's current projects, including the Governance Engagement project, an extension to the School Improvement commission to focus on primary writing, and our work around Race Equality. • A series of partner updates, including an input from St Wilfrid's English Hub, Fusion SEND Hub and Yorkshire & Humber Clinical Research Network.
Learn Sheffield Alternative Provision Commission

Learn Sheffield has also been commissioned by SCC to work alongside colleagues from the sector and LA to develop a city-wide strategy and operational plan for alternative provision (AP) in the city.
Young Carers Project

Learn Sheffield are working with Sheffield Young Carers to improve the identification of young carers and our ability to understand their outcomes. We believe that these two things will improve the support that can be provided to children and young people in the city and also enable us to better understand the barriers and challenges those young carers in our city face.
Governance Engagement Project Launches Video

Learn Sheffield have produced a video to support settings and organisations across the city by promoting the benefits of becoming involved in governance. We are working with the Sheffield Association of School Governing Bodies and Sheffield City Council to increase the pipeline of volunteers interested in becoming involved in the governance of Sheffield settings, with a focus on increasing diversity amongst Sheffield governors and trustees.
SEND Manifesto Being Developed

Learn Sheffield has been commissioned by SCC to support improvement in SEND in the city. This update, from the Learn Sheffield CEO, was shared with setting leaders on 30 September 2024 to provide more information about this work.

Autumn 1 Leader Briefing now available

The first Leader Briefing of the school year is now available below. These briefings will continue to offer local information which is relevant to Sheffield setting leaders. This briefing includes: Two LSIP inputs- one on early reading and the other feeding back on the learning from LSIP work in schools and inspections last year. A series of partner updates, including a health protection briefing, information from South Yorkshire Maths Hub, an update from South Yorkshire Creators Hub and some key resources from the Family Hubs Infant Feeding team. A Learn Sheffield update, which now includes the half termly meeting note that is produced to support sector and locality meetings.
Autumn Leadership Seminar

The first Leadership Seminar of the year is taking place on Friday 8 November at Niagara Conference and Leisure, with a keynote input from Alison Kriel. This will then be followed by in-person locality meetings.
New members of the Learn Sheffield Team

Learn Sheffield welcomes three new colleagues to the team as we start the new term. We also have a number of the existing team starting the new school year with new roles, including Sam Dunker who is now the Deputy CEO. These changes follow a re-structure and build our capacity to enable Learn Sheffield to take on further responsibilities, including relating to SEND and Inclusion in the coming months. We are currently working on a more detailed update for our members, to share later this half term.
