Published: 4 November 2021
This session with Nick Whittaker was part of the Learn Sheffield Online Autumn Festival and looked into why it is important to listen to and understand what it’s like to be a young person.
The session explored why it is important to listen to and understand what it’s like to be a young person. Participants thought about what is important to pupils and what is important for them and how this links to person-centered practice.
The session investigated setting boundaries between teachers and young people and the how the impact of negative experiences can change children’s behavior.
The social justice role that schools play was discussed with a quote from Gwyneth Lewis, ‘education is the road to everywhere except bigotry.’ This reveals the exciting potential that education providers have and the opportunities they can give to young people.
Attendees looked at a persons profile and looked at techniques of how to best support this young person.
This session was recorded and can be viewed via the Learn Sheffield schools portal.
