Festival News: Introducing Create Sheffield

Create Sheffield  is Sheffield’s Cultural Education Partnership, it exists to take the young people of Sheffield on ‘a journey into the arts, culture and heritage sectors, benefiting the lives of all those in Sheffield aged 0-24. Create Sheffield is supported by IVE, the Arts Council Bridge Organisation for Yorkshire and the Humber and also has received support from other organisations in Sheffield. 

Over the course of 3 weeks, Create Sheffield will be exploring the question ‘why does engaging with the arts, culture and creativity matter?’  In this first event, Sophie shared the following reasons;

1.Memorable learning experiences

2.Improves educational attainment across the curriculum

3.Develops skills for the jobs for the future

4. Improves mental health and wellbeing

5. Develop transferable life and work skills

6. Provides routes to success for YP with SEN

7. Levels the playing field for disadvantaged students

8. Promotes community engagement and cohesion

9. Makes learning fun!

Create Sheffield will be exploring this question further, delving into areas and themes such as early years, performance, SEND, diversity and inclusion, drama, the school curriculum and more.

How to engage

Due to the pandemic, Create Sheffield has yet been unable to meet their aim to talk to every school in Sheffield. Why Creativity Matters NOW is Create Sheffield's opportunity to talk to teachers, school leaders and arts professionals to consult them on their needs and to better understand the context in which they work. Create Sheffield will use this series of consultations to shape their offer to schools and creative professionals in 2022.
