The Learn Sheffield Improvement Team have been working on middle leader training for primary schools. This training is a continuation of previous training relating to the curriculum and the new Ofsted Framework. It is aimed at curriculum/subject/middle leaders. The details are as follows:

  • This is central, virtual training led by Learn Sheffield Improvement Partners (LSIPs).
  • The training will last for half a day.
  • There are 10 dates to choose from (see below) and there is a maximum capacity of 10 people per session – to encourage discussion.
  • There will be a short, curriculum self-audit, pre task to complete by the participants prior to attending the training.
  • The training will cover:

-revisiting some of the key aspects in the Ofsted Framework

-an example of how leaders in a school have developed a curriculum subject

-principles relating to the monitoring and evaluation of curriculum subjects

-curriculum leader interview questions

-discussion of and preparation for a subject review following this training (virtually or in the school). This will be supported by an LSIP

  • The training is designed to be followed up with a subject review (virtually or in the school), where the participant and an LSIP work together to evaluate that subject. There will not be a written report but there will be an opportunity to feedback the review findings with the headteacher at the end of the review.

Colleagues from schools who subscrive to Learn Sheffield may have already discussed accessing this training as part of planning how to use their subscription entitlement. The cost of this training for one colleague is equivalent to one and a half days (half a day for the training and one day, including preparation, for the follow up review work). Many schools ae using multiple subscription days and having  bespoke programme involving multiple middle leaders.
