Jane Elsworth from Huntington Research School delivered a session on the importance of implementation in development and designing effective professional development. This session was part of the ‘Leadership and Curriculum’ strand of the Learn Sheffield Autumn Online Festival.

The session focused on promoting effective professional development in order to improve classroom practice and pupil outcomes. It was based around the new  Effective Professional Development Guidance Report and also referenced Putting Evidence to Work- A School's Guide to Implementation, both of which are from the Education Endowment Foundation.

There was a focus on the importance of mechanisms and an evidence-based approach.

Participants were given the chance to share their reflections on how these mechanisms were used in a Professional Development programme that they have run.

The importance of professional development programmes being implemented while taking into consideration of the context and needs of the school was also discussed.
