School Governance Improvement Service

Academy Subscription 2018 - 2019

From 1st April 2018, Learn Sheffield is responsible for the School Governance Improvement Service. The service, which was previously delivered by Sheffield City Council, aims to support school governing boards and trusts to ensure that all schools and academies have high quality governance to provide effective oversight of our schools.

The service works closely with the Learn Sheffield School Improvement Team to work in a joined-up way to ensure we’re as effective as possible in helping schools to improve. This includes:

  • High quality advice and guidance for governors and trustees, including chairs and vice chairs, drawing on the expertise of our local team and also through our partnership with national expert bodies
  • Access to resources, regular briefings and newsletters to ensure that governors and trustees are kept up to date on key issues and new developments in the world of school and academy governance
  • A comprehensive, relevant and high standard training and development programme for schools, including training courses, seminars, briefings and an annual governance conference
  • Support for governor recruitment to help governing boards and trusts recruit members with the skills to make a difference in your school
  • A governors’ professional clerking service to help governing boards and trusts be more effective
  • Access to Governor Hub, a well-established online service to help governing boards keep accurate records and to ensure secure and efficient communications around all aspects of the work of the governing board or trust
