Statutory Primary Assessment Moderation

Statutory Primary Assessment Programme 2023/24

Learn Sheffield has designed a programme of training to support teachers with statutory assessment.

Sessions will include guidance around the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check and preparation for the Key Stage 2 national tests.

The programme is suitable for Year 1 teachers who have not administered the Phonics Screening Check before, teachers new to Year 6 and teachers who would like a refresher about the end of Key Stage 2 requirements.

There will be a mix of online and face-to-face sessions.

Subscribing schools will have unlimited access to the 2023/24 assessment programmes. For non-subscribing schools each session will be charged at £95 per person unless otherwise stated.

Headteacher Briefings – Statutory Assessment

This online briefing will be led by Amy Parry-McDermott and Diane Stokes who will provide a refresher for headteachers about statutory assessment.

New to Y2 EXS Writing (Non-Statutory Assessment)

This session will be led by Amy Parry-McDermott who will provide information and guidance around the assessment of EXS writing at the end of KS1. It is aimed at those who are new to Y2, in schools where they are continuing to use the STA Teacher Assessment Frameworks for writing (now optional) to assess writing at the end of KS1. It is also recommended that delegates also book onto the New to Y2 GDS Writing session.

KS2 STA Additional Writing Assessment Training for Y6 Teachers

Each year, the STA releases a suite of materials that are used to train external LA moderators. ‘Pupil Can’ statements are unpicked, and clarification and examples provided. Amy Parry-McDermott offers this training, annually, to all Y6 teachers (experienced and new) to ensure that everyone is in receipt of the same messages around assessment and moderation.

This year, KS1 teacher assessment is non-statutory, however, this session is for experienced Y2 teachers who would like to continue to use the STA Teacher Assessment Frameworks to assess reading, writing and mathematics at the end of KS1. This session will be led by Diane Stokes who will provide information and guidance for teachers who are not new to Y2.
