Barnardo’s Survey Deadline Extended

Published: 22 December 2016
Barnardo’s Positive Identities survey deadline has been extended until Wednesday 25th January
Barnardo’s Positive Identities Service works to raise awareness around sexual identities and gender identities, and prevent discrimination and prejudice. We support young people who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Trans and Questioning (LGBTQ) and work to tackle Homophobic, Biphobic and Transphobic (HBT) discrimination and bullying, striving for a more equal society in which everyone feels able to be proud of and celebrate who they are.

We have had a fantastic response to our primary and secondary school recruitment surveys for the Department for Education and Government Equalities Office funded Anti-Homophobic, Biphobic, Transphobic bullying programme 2016-2019.  The work is funded and free to primary and secondary schools and is a fantastic opportunity to create a sustainable, embedded culture of promoting equality and inclusion, celebrating diversity and of effective anti-discriminatory practice. The programme aims to up skill school staff to ensure they have the confidence, knowledge and skills to effectively support children and young people around sexual and gender identities and to positively challenge discrimination and prejudice.

Following a discussion with the Government Equalities Office, it has been agreed we can extend the offer of the Programme so that primary and secondary schools in Yorkshire and Humber region who have not had the opportunity to complete the survey can do so.  We were able to share with the Office the feedback that we have received from schools and local authority leads about timescales to complete the recruitment survey as well as the need for the work and therefore we have now extended our deadline for completed surveys to Wednesday 25th January 2016.

This is to ensure all schools have the opportunity to be included for recruitment: this is a fantastic project and we would like to ensure we are engaging with all schools across the region.
